So often this scripture is quoted when someone is hit with a "bad" medical diagnosis
Or going through a difficult season in life. I find this truth to be so rich that it should be a daily reminder and encouragement, at least for me. I'm not always going through something "big" or "deep" some days I'm just going through "life"! I need to be reminded while I'm serving at church, working 9-5, cleaning the house, running errands and everything else, we as woman balance, that God has not left me to go at it alone. He has given me the Holy Spirit to accomplish all that is laid out before me.
Let's dissect this verse piece for piece
- Who gives? God gives and we know our Father only gives good gifts.
-What has he not given us? A spirit of fear
This is my favorite part to any verse in all its truth "BUT"
-but by definition: used to indicate the impossibility of anything other than what is being stated.
-The same spirit gives us power, that same power that raised Christ from the dead and inhabits us as believers. We are weak, but He is strong in us, through the spirit He gives us resurrection power! I don't know about you but if that life raising power is in me, I'm pretty sure we can do All things.
-He gives us love. What is the truest example of love? Christ would lay down his life for you and I, even on our ugliest least deserving days. He set a perfect example for us on how to love and the spirit God gave us is to help us love like Him.
-Finally a sound mind, some translations say peace or self disipline, which means more to me somedays than anything. In my busy schedule I have moments I feel like I may just loose my mind. I have less patience for those closest to me and feel stretched too thin on top of all that I have battled health issues for the past eight years,
but it is the Holy Spirit in me and nothing else that gives me internal stillness and a peace that I can't even explain. A peace that passes all understanding.
Take hold of this truth daily, walk out your "life" whatever it looks like right now, "big" or small mountains to climb, knowing what your Heavenly Father has given you. He has equip you with all you need. You are courageous and do not have a spirit of fear!
