In case you missed the announcement about this NEW SERIES | #TruthAboutWhoYouAre take a moment to check out this blog post.
This is Day 37 of 48 of the #TruthAboutWhoYouAre series. Thank you so much for joining in on this journey with me. I hope you are inspired over this 7 week series.
Today’s guest writer is my beautiful Katie Boyd. She’s a wife, a mom, a teacher, and a pastor at @theocmovement. Thank you Katie for sharing these powerful thoughts!
I am delivered from the power of darkness and translated into God’s kingdom Colossians 1:13
It’s pitch dark. You can’t find the smallest hint of light anywhere in sight. You hold your hand out in front of your face. Nothing. Your heart begins to race as you slowly shuffle your feet inch by inch. All your senses are heightened and even the tiniest noise makes you more uneasy of what is ahead. As you continue, you flail your arms around to ensure you don’t run into any obstacle that may lie ahead.
A few years back, I felt like I was living in complete darkness. Literally. I was struggling with depression, living in a constant state of heightened emotions and anxiety. My life felt completely out of control, which doesn’t suit my personality well. The shame from my past loomed over me like a dark cloud. No matter which direction I turned, I couldn’t escape.
Have you ever felt like you were living in the dark? Wondering what is just beyond this season that doesn’t seem to end. Are you inching your way through life frantically searching for any amount of light to help your eyes adjust to your surroundings?
Looking back, I can see how God gently guided me around various obstacles that stood right in front of me. I had come to the end of my rope and knew God wanted me to surrender control and let go of my shame. Even though I felt helpless, I knew God had a plan. Through difficult and dark times, God will guide our every step and shine a light that will clearly direct us, if we trust in Him. He will deliver us; free us completely from the power of darkness. In Colossians 1:13 (MSG), it says “God rescued us from dead-end alleys and dark dungeons. He’s set us up in the kingdom of the Son he loves so much, the Son who got us out of the pit we were in, got rid of the sins we were doomed to keep repeating.”
When we solely rely on God to navigate our steps, then we can have confidence that He will always illuminate our path. It may not be the whole path; it may just be one or two steps ahead. But instead of focusing on the surrounding darkness from our past or current situations, we have to choose to focus on God’s word and the promises He gives us.
In the midst of a difficult decision, or even a challenging season, believe and trust that you ARE delivered from darkness. When you seek Him, He will guide you. It may still feel dark. There may not be any light in sight, but He will come right alongside you and lead the way.
