You Are Stronger Than You Think May 19 2016
I've shared this story before but I need the reminder and want to share again! I was in a yoga class a few years back. The instructor was tough - but good. I liked going because I knew the 60 minutes that I was there I would be pushed to work hard. One day, he had us in a pose and I just remember my legs were on fire! I was already sore and could barely stand the pain. So I dropped out of the pose. He walked over to my mat and said something along the lines of, "You're stronger than you think... Get back up... You can do this." I listened, got back in the pose, and kept going. Now anytime I'm in a workout and I feel like dropping to the mat or setting the weights down I think of his words and push through.
This hasn't just applied to physical exercise though... There are times when I am tired... Not just physically but emotionally and spiritually. There are seasons where it's like everyday is a new battle of faith. There are days when my thoughts and emotions want to take over and drown out the Truth that's hidden in my heart. Do you know what I'm talking about? Moments come that challenge our already sore hearts and souls and we feel like dropping to the mat and surrendering to the pain. It's important to remember in those moments that: "You are stronger than you think." Not because we are personally strong but because we can lean on and rely on the One who is strongest to come and strengthen our heart and lives so that we keep fighting forward.
The tough times and trials have the opportunity to produce a greater strength inside of us than if we had an easy life. It seems like a disadvantage at the moment to have to battle so much but down the road we'll be thankful for the strength we have gained along the way.
“Consider it a sheer gift, friends, when tests and challenges come at you from all sides. You know that under pressure, your faith-life is forced into the open and shows its true colors. So don’t try to get out of anything prematurely. Let it do its work so you become mature and well-developed, not deficient in any way.”
James 1:2-4 MSG
